Packets, sponsorships, and everything pre-recruitment
Hi! My name is Chloe and I am the current VP: membership for Texas Delta Gamma! Three years ago I was sitting in your seat, excited but nervous about going through the process of formal recruitment, so when I was asked to write this blog post, I thought it would be a great opportunity to give y’all some insight, while also hopefully helping to calm your nerves.
First things first, you have made the BEST decision by coming to UT and going through recruitment. The Texas Panhellenic community is one of a kind and I can honestly say that no matter where you find your “home”, you will have friends in many different houses who also feel like sisters.
Second, when I was going through, I kept hearing the phrase “trust the process” and I couldn’t help but think, “yeah okay, that is so cliché”. But it is honestly the best advice anyone could ever give to someone going through recruitment! You will end up where you’re supposed to, I promise!
So now for the pre-recruitment preparation tips.
Start now!
First, look at each chapter’s website (it looks like you’ve found ours so that’s a good first step!!) and determine if they require/prefer an online sponsorship form or a physical packet. This allows you to properly inform whomever will be sending in your information on your behalf. Next, start finding alumni from each chapter to write your sponsorship/recommendation forms and letters of support, early! (See definitions below).This will alleviate so much of your stress and will ensure that your information has been sent to the houses in plenty of time, before their individual deadlines, which are often found on their websites (typically June 1st).
Lastly, alumni often love a good handwritten thank you note, so this is always a nice touch (and can sometimes be reminder for them to finish it all in time). Definitions:
Sponsorship/recommendation form:
A formal form usually found on the sorority’s national website and filled out by alumni.
Letters of Support:
More similar to a true letter of recommendation, that you probably used to apply to college. Often just a letter or quick note from an alumni of that chapter that provides more information about you and why they think you would be a good fit in their chapter.
